RStudio is now available as a fully managed integrated development environment within Amazon SageMaker.

Amazon announced it has added the RStudio development environment for the R language to its SageMaker machine learning service.

This is the first integrated development environment (IDE) in those working on machine learning with R, says AWS.

The open source R language has long been a tool of choice for statisticians. It is also used by quantitative analysts, data scientists, and machine learning engineers, according to Amazon. RStudio is one of the most popular development environments among R developers for machine learning and data science projects.

Channy Yung, Principal Developer Advocate for AWS, announced the new offering in a blog post.

“You can now bring your current RStudio license to easily migrate your self-managed RStudio environments to Amazon SageMaker in just a few simple steps,” he writes.

“With RStudio on Amazon SageMaker, administrators can have a simple experience to migrate their RStudio environments to integrate into Amazon SageMaker,” he adds. Users can also bring existing RStudio licenses to manage through AWS License Manager.

Centralizing and simplifying developer onboarding

Now customers can onboard both R and Python developers to the same Amazon SageMaker domain. They can do this using AWS Single Sign-On (SSO) or AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM). They can also take it as a centralized place to configure both RStudio and Amzon SageMaker Studio.

“So, data scientists have a freedom of choice between programming languages and coding interfaces to switch between RStudio and Amazon SageMaker Studio notebooks,” Yun says.

RStudio on Amazon SageMaker is currently available. It can be found in all AWS Regions where both Amazon SageMaker Studio and AWS License Manager are available.
