ASML’s German factory will receive much financial support in the coming years. The Dutch chip machine manufacturer is investing 100 million euros in the plant this year and wants to invest the same amount in several following years.
The financial investments should significantly expand ASML’s presence in Berlin. To that end, there will also be a search for new employees. This tells George Gomba, director of ASML’s German branch, to the German Handelsblatt. The workforce currently numbers 1,700 and will be expanded to 2,300 employees overtime.
ASML established itself in the German market three years ago through the acquisition of Berliner Glas. Under the leadership of the Dutch chip machine manufacturer, the company remained an important supplier to the semiconductor industry. In addition to its core mission of being a supplier, ASML wants the company to focus more on research, Gomba reports.
Germany booming
Germany can put itself in the spotlight as an important country to strengthen the European chip industry once again. The country can also welcome an Intel plant following an agreement earlier this year on additional subsidies for constructing a plant in Magdeburg.
