“ASML aims to produce 110 EUV machines by 2028”

ASML is exploring how it can produce more than 110 EUV machines by 2028. The chip equipment manufacturer is looking to expand its capacity to meet the strong demand driven by AI.

Reuters reports this based on information from JPMorgan analysts, who spoke with ASML’s CFO. According to the analysts, management indicated that demand for EUV machines remains very strong. The majority of the orders ASML is currently receiving are for systems scheduled for delivery in 2028.

ASML has previously indicated that its 2027 capacity is virtually sold out. The company can produce at least 80 EUV machines that year. For 2028, ASML is aiming for a 30 percent increase in capacity. The company is now exploring options to further increase that number to more than 110 systems.

Assembly limits production

According to JPMorgan, the supply chain is not the main constraint on further growth. The bottleneck is how quickly ASML can assemble the EUV machines.

At the same time, the intensity of EUV deployment is increasing. By this, analysts mean the use of the technology per chip produced. This also contributes to demand for the machines.

JPMorgan also expects Intel to once again become a major ASML customer starting in 2027. According to the bank, new customers are also in the works, including Elon Musk’s Terafab.

High-NA starting in 2028

According to JPMorgan, the rollout of the next generation of High-NA systems will begin in 2028 but will not take on greater significance until the next decade.

The analysts also expect sales to Chinese memory chip manufacturers to strengthen in 2027.

According to JPMorgan, ASML currently sees no reason to develop an alternative light source based on FEL. The company believes that advances in laser technology make such a transition unnecessary. Musk, on the other hand, has expressed interest in this alternative light source.
