Schneider Electric and Scale Computing have joined forces to bring to market a joint offer for retailers. The offer is aimed at making edge computing more accessible and affordable to help retailers optimise in-store functions and enhance customer experience.

Designed for retailers

The Scale Computing HC3 Edge for retail solution will be delivered through Schneider Electric’s EcoStruxure Micro Data Centres.

The solution is pre-integrated and provides complete IT infrastructure to enable isolated retail locations become self-managing micro data centres to better support critical retail business applications.

It provides a single platform for retailers to run applications across point of sale, building management, security applications, inventory management, asset management and more.

The solution provides certified interoperability and includes Schneider Electric’s next generation data centre infrastructure management (DCIM) platform, EcoStruxure IT, for remote monitoring capabilities.

Retailers can also use EcoStruxure Asset Advisor – Schneider Electric’s service bureau for around the clock remote monitoring and troubleshooting support.

These different components enable customers to manage critical edge compute resources remotely, removing the need for onsite IT support and monitoring.

Support now and for the future

According to the duo, the offering brings retailers four key benefits.

These are: increased speed of deployment through the ability to connect web browsers and use a single management interface, added security with device-level cyber security and greater enclosure options, standardised architectures, and greater affordability due to the fact that HC3 Edge software doesn’t require additional licensing costs and includes backup and recovery.

Jim Simonelli, senior vice president Emerging Businesses at Schneider Electric Secure Power Division, says, “Micro data centres are becoming retailers’ integrated solution of choice to support this new wave of applications that require data processing closer to the source.

“Delivering the Scale Computing HC3 Edge for retail in Schneider Electric’s EcoStruxure Micro Data Centres will help retailers ensure their IT environments can support applications now and in the future.”
