Insider sources told Bloomberg that HPE expressed an interest in acquiring Nutanix. The companies reportedly held exploratory talks in recent months.

Back in October, the Wall Street Journal reported on rumours of Nutanix seeking out a possible acquisition. Insider sources recently told Bloomberg that HPE and Nutanix have been holding talks to discuss the possibility of a buyout.

The sources said it’s unclear whether the two will be able to reach an agreement over the price. Neither party has responded to the rumours.

The rumours aren’t surprising. Multiple anonymous sources informed media that Nutanix has been looking for a buyout in recent months.

The company is changing. Among other things, Nutanix started transitioning from a traditional software licensing model to a subscription-based licensing model.

If the rumours turn out to be true, the buyer will have to make a significant offer. Nutanix’s market value currently totals about $6.5 billion (€6.2 billion).
