HPE is said to be in advanced talks about acquiring Juniper Networks. HPE will pay about $13 billion (€11.9 billion) for the networking company. The companies are likely to announce the deal this week.

This is according to the Wall Street Journal. According to the Wall Street Journal’s source, HPE wants to better position itself in the AI era by acquiring Juniper. Juniper has its Mist AI service, which uses algorithms to improve wireless access and can be used to enhance network security.

Mist AI complements Juniper’s networking services. The company provides routers, switches, Wi-Fi, network security, AI-enabled enterprise networking operations and software-defined networking. Several tech providers, telecom companies and financial service companies use Juniper services.

In addition to Juniper’s commitment to AI as a networking partner, HPE’s acquisition of Juniper may also interest Aruba. This networking division of HPE has performed well recently, but attracting a significant party like Juniper could significantly accelerate its growth.

News of the upcoming acquisition caused significant effects on shares after trading hours. A share of HPE was worth 7.7 per cent less, while Juniper shares shot up 21 per cent.

HPE did not want to comment on The Wall Street Journal’s report, and Juniper has not yet responded to the news either.
