Siemens has acquired Nextflow Software, a provider of particle-based computational fluid dynamics (CFD) solutions. The terms of the deal have not been disclosed. The acquisition will ensure that Siemens can add smooth-particle hydrodynamics (SPH) technology by Nextflow Software into its Xcelerator software.
The integration will also speed up and automate fluid flow and transient notion applications analysis, in the aerospace, automotive, and marine industries. The technology can be used for things like spray cooling motors, lubricating the gearbox, tank sloshing, and more.
What the tech offers
Jean-Claude Ercolanelli, the senior Veep of simulation and test solutions at Siemens Digital Industries Software, said that the company’s customers need to be able to use sophisticated simulations earlier and more frequently in the design process. Because of that, there is a strong demand for speedy and automated CFD of dynamics gas-liquid flows.
Ercolanelli continued to say that meshless technology has come up as a favourite solution to slash the time it takes to set up and solve these kinds of problems, subsequently speeding up time to results and prove the behavior of products without spending too much time or money.
Expanding the scope of Siemens’ offering
The Siemens Digital Industries Software suite is used for many mechanical and electrical designs, with the aid of computer design and high-fidelity tools. Nextflow Software’s technology is now included in the Siemens Simcenter Xcelerator portfolio. Engineers can use it to get the benefits of meshless and mesh-based solvers to deal with design obstacles.
One example of the improvement is that where suitable, SPH-flow Explorer can be 5 to 100 times faster than conventional finite volume solvers, making short work of the challenge, with better results to boot.
