Sumo Logic is expanding its platform by enhancing what Data Pipelines brings to the table. These allow customers to filter, transform, and route telemetry data before it is stored and analyzed. The company aims to help organizations control costs without requiring them to deploy an additional tool or agent in their environment.
The core of today’s announcement is that data-related decisions are shifting further up the chain. Instead of ingesting everything and facing the bill afterward, security and operations teams can determine in advance which signals are valuable and where they end up, including in terms of costs.
Sumo Logic says it processes nearly seven exabytes of data per day for thousands of teams. Such a scale creates the challenges we briefly mentioned above. Add to that the fact that AI systems are driving data volumes even higher and that agent-based workflows depend on high-quality telemetry, and it becomes clear how important it is to optimize data pipelines.
Live preview and AI-powered rules
The idea behind a live pipeline preview is that it enables teams to filter out noise and route data to lower-cost tiers or external destinations. Organizations use AI to configure the rules required for this. According to Sumo Logic, this used to take hours. In addition, AI automatically detects anomalies and changing data formats.
Finally, Sumo Logic notes that it will further expand Data Pipelines later this year. It will then add (again with the help of AI) a visual way to shape telemetry data into the correct format before it is stored. After that, Sumo Logic aims to make the solution platform-neutral. OpenTelemetry plays an important role in this.
