A new report by Teradici found that 78% of respondents across multiple and varying industries are currently working on implementing zero trust or are planning to implement it in the next two years.
VPNs will likely be replaced by remote access and zero trust to protect corporate assets fully in a world where hybrid workforces have become the norm.
Organizations had to shift to remote work during the pandemic, necessitating scaling up security and network capabilities in a short time. Many companies had to make quick decisions that did not place enough emphasis on safety and user experience.
Endpoint security risks
Teradici’s new report found security issues revealed when companies had to work remotely and corporate plans to bolster security. Hybrid work isn’t going anywhere, and its security aspects have to come to the fore as it matures.
Almost all (99%) of the respondents reported that their companies would have a hybrid work plan, and nearly 40% expect that more than half of their workforce will work at home at least twice a week after the pandemic ends. Only 10% of employees are predominantly using corporate-owned devices in their home offices.
Moving away from VPNs
About 74% of the respondents reported that they expect to use the ‘bring your own device’ format soon. Because of that reality, IT leaders have to worry about endpoint security. 94% indicates that the companies they work for are worried about protecting corporate data exposed via home-based devices. 98% are concerned about security or data integrity due to employees working on their own devices.
Companies are turning to remote access and zero trust and shifting away from VPNs to mitigate the risks. The survey involved more than 8,300 respondents.
