Snowflake announced expansions to its data warehousing product during a virtual event. These expansions include the new Data Cloud, updates for the Cloud Data Platform and additional integrations.
Snowflake describes Data Cloud as an ecosystem for organizations for data aggregation, in other words collecting and summarizing data. Through the Data Cloud, any organization can work between different cloud providers and their regions. With Data Cloud, Snowflake wants to simplify the movement of cloud repositories and on-premise data to its platform.
The Cloud Data Platform also includes the following features:
- Snowsight, a tool to run queries and commands in Snowflake, collaborate and visualise data and create streamlined dashboards.
- Dynamic Data Masking that allows customers to create rights-based policies.
- External Tokenisation to integrate with third-party token systems.
- Search optimisation and the ability to call external services for support.
- Data exchange to securely share data with partners, suppliers and customers.
- Snowflake Data Marketplace to access third-party datasets for the Snowflake platform.
Integration with Salesforce
The native integrations between Snowflake and Salesforce include tools to unify and analyze the data in the Cloud Data Platform and visualize it in Tableau and Salesforce. The integrations should close gaps in the data and provide more useful data for businesses.
With the Einstein Analytics Output Connector for Snowflake, customers can easily move Salesforce data to Snowflake, and with Einstein Analytics Direct Data for Snowflake, Einstein Analytics users can retrieve data within Snowflake. This data can contain Salesforce data as well as data from applications, the internet or the Snowflake Data Marketplace.
Salesforce previously invested heavily in Snowflake. In February, the companies announced a close partnership.
