Outlook continues to have synchronization problems

Outlook for Microsoft 365 has a new synchronization problem. This time, it concerns Outlook for Microsoft 365 clients’ connection to e-mail servers via Exchange ActiveSync after a version update in January this year.

According to Microsoft, Outlook for Microsoft 365 users may be experiencing problems synchronizing their clients with e-mail servers via Exchange ActiveSync (EAS). EAS is a protocol that uses HTTP and XML to access email, calendar, contacts and tasks within Outlook for Microsoft 365.

The EAS protocol is enabled by default for users’ new e-mail boxes. When this feature is disabled, they can no longer sync their mailboxes with mobile devices.

After rolling out Version 2401 Build 17231.20182 in January, the tech giant pointed out that Outlook stopped connecting to email servers via the EAS protocol.

Only the EAS protocol was affected by the update. Other connection protocols usually work, according to Microsoft.

Solution

The tech giant is currently figuring out the cause of this problem, fixing it and developing a solution. Microsoft offers affected customers a temporary fix to get their non-syncing Outlook desktop clients working again.

This temporary fix is complex and requires users to redirect their Microsoft 365 Office click-to-run installations to an unaffected Office build. Or switch to an Office Channel that does not have this synchronization problem.
