AMD launches AI tool for image generation on your PC

AMD has launched its own version of an AI tool for generating images. Amuse 2.0’s distinguishing feature is that it runs entirely locally.

Amuse 2.0 is designed for PCs with an AMD AI 3000-series or 8040-series CPU. The tool also works optimally on PCs with the Radeon RX 7000 series graphics card. Certain specifications must be met because the AI tool runs locally and thus needs to generate power form the chips present in the PC. This approach differs from DALL-E, for example, which runs in the cloud and thus requires OpenAI to provide the appropriate infrastructure.

Simplicity is the most important feature

AMD relied on open-source models from Stable Diffusion to develop Amuse 2.0. Users can, therefore, install these models themselves so that the model runs locally. However, according to AMD, that requires a lot of technical knowledge, whereas Amuse 2.0 would be much easier to install. “AMD has partnered with TensorStack, an AI technology company based in New Zealand, to provide a painless, user-friendly and optimized end-user experience for AMD Ryzen AI 300-series processors and Radeon RX 7000-series graphics customers.”

The ease of use is further implemented in the user interface. This allows users to configure the tool even further to their liking. With this users can, for example, configure settings on how many images gets generated by default.

In addition, there are several ways provided to give input to the model. In addition to the standard text-to-image method, users have the option of entering a sketch which the tool will convert to an AI image. The images are further editable by the user after creation.
