Apple is releasing a 13.3-inch MacBook Pro and a new MacBook Air with the new ARM chips this year, according to well-known Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. The two devices are scheduled for release in the fourth quarter of 2020.
If Kuo’s reports are correct, the 13.3-inch MacBook Pro will be the first Mac to feature Apple’s own Arm chips. The new MacBook Pro will go into production in the fourth quarter of this year. According to Kuo, a new MacBook Air with Arm’s new chips will also be launched. The MacBook Air is expected to be released at the end of this year or in the first quarter of 2021. Apple announced the switch from Intel chips to its own processors last month.
Mini-LED MacBook Pro
Kuo also expects Apple to release new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros with Arm Chips in the second or third quarter of 2021. Kuo previously predicted that MacBooks with these screen sizes would be equipped with new Mini-LED displays, which offer much better contrast than the existing LCD screens in the MacBook lineup. The 14-inch MacBook Pro is expected to be similar in size to Apple’s existing 13-inch MacBook Pro, but with smaller bezels for a larger screen.
Apple only confirmed that the first Mac with the new Arm Chips would be released later this year, but the specific model is unknown. The transition from Intel chips to the new chips should take about two years.
Ming-Chi Kuo
It remains to be seen whether these reports are accurate, but Kuo is often correct when it comes to Apple predictions. In 2018, he reported that Apple was planning to replace Intel processors with proprietary chips in 2020. He also predicted in 2019 that the highly criticised MacBook keyboard would revert to the old design.
