It seems the AMD processors will also be available in the 13.5 inch models.

AMD options in the Microsoft Surface Laptop series have not been unknown in the past. Indeed, since 2019 the company has offered their 15 inch Surface 3 Laptop with an AMD processor. AMD was not, however, available in the smaller versions of the device.

That seems to be changing. According to an article in the German online zine WinFuture, Microsoft is planning to release the Surface Laptop 4 in April. This means that Microsoft fans will have a chance to configure either an AMD or an Intel processor in both 13.5-inch and 15-inch sizes.

“Surface Edition” versions will ship

The company will reportedly offer “Surface Edition” variants of the Ryzen 5 4680U and Ryzen 7 4980U, according to the report. That’s an improvement on the 3580U and 3780U currently available with the Surface Laptop 3. However, it is still a step below the 5000 series chips AMD has announced.

Those who still insist on an Intel processor will be able to choose between the Core i5 1145G7 and Core i7 1185G7. Moreover, for those who want to configure their Surface 4 with the more generous 32GB of RAM or 1TB of internal storage will need to buy one of the Intel models. The maximum specs for AMD versions will be 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage.

According to the spec sheet shown in the WinFuture article, both models will keep their current 2256 x 1504 and 2496 x 1664 resolution displays. They will also be equipped with the same mix of ports.
