The organization unveiled a new connected smart camera and 24-hour support line for drivers of ride-hailing apps as CES 2023 kicked off in Las Vegas on Tuesday evening.
Bosch said it is collaborating with ridesharing and delivery app Gridwise to undertake research and verify whether the products are the right fit for the market.
“What takes the Bosch RideCare companion beyond a simple dashcam is that it is paired with a service that provides active help by trained call center specialists when required”, Christoph Hartung, president of cross-domain computing solutions for Bosch, said in a statement.
Every ride is tracked. The footage, which contains encrypted data like a timestamp and location, is only transferred to the cloud if the driver hits the SOS button or requests a transfer. A lighting component on the front notifies drivers and riders that the service is operational.
According to Bosch, data is managed per applicable data privacy rules. The camera has a variety of tamper-resistant features and will transmit an alarm if the device’s field of view is compromised or obstructed.
A spokesperson said the device would be ready for purchase in early 2023. Bosch will sell the camera to both drivers and fleets. The organization did not disclose a price tag for the hardware and support service.
