Mimecast is acquiring Elevate Security. The acquisition should have a beneficial effect on human-centred cybersecurity solutions.

A small error out of inattention or a click out of curiosity still remains a major avenue through which hackers attempt to infiltrate a company’s digital environment. That’s why it’s important for organizations to understand cybersecurity is not only something digital. All too often, a new technology stands or falls on its adoption, and employee awareness of cyber risks also deserves continued attention.

Enriching Mimecast’s offerings

Mimecast wants to spread that message more widely and is taking over Elevate Security to succeed. Depending on the organization’s commitment to security awareness, people can just as easily be an important part of the defence against cybercriminals, the company knows. Moreover, betting on security awareness is more important than ever in this era. “People, communication and data are at the core of any organization, and artificial intelligence has accelerated the ability of cybercriminals to exploit these essential elements for their own gain,” said David Raissipour, chief technology and product officer at Mimecast.

While Mimecast is primarily betting on e-mail services and their associated protection, Elevate Security is invested in human risk management solutions. Those solutions are very useful for protection against phishing, for example. Elevate Security’s product can identify risky behaviour performed by an employee, such as clicking on a link in an e-mail from an unknown sender. After identification, Mimecast can educate the employee with its range of awareness training to the person who suggested the behaviour.

The acquisition puts Elevate Security’s existing customers under the immediate control of Mimecast. Mimecast customers can expect the first integrations soon. No financial details about the acquisition are made publicly.
