Dell introduces series of new services to combat cybersecurity threats

Dell is expanding its data storage and security portfolio with applications designed to help organizations better defend against cybersecurity threats. The new offerings include enhanced PowerProtect Data Domain systems, the APEX Backup Services AI, and innovative Storage Direct Protection functionality suitable for use in PowerMax arrays.

According to the company, the new Dell PowerProtect Data Domain DD9410 and DD9910 storage systems suit large enterprises and offer improved performance, security, and efficiency over the predecessor DD9900. In this comparison, backup should be 38 percent faster and recovery as much as 44 percent.

The equipment is also less energy-hungry and offers 65x deduplication. This means the storage system reduces the amount of data stored to just 1/65th of its original size by storing identical blocks of data only once and then referring to that one copy when that same block of data is encountered elsewhere. The DD9410 and DD9910 devices are integrated into a broad partner ecosystem, providing customers with ample flexibility.

Streamlining processes with AI assistant

APEX Backup Services AI is an integrated GenAI assistant that enables users to streamline their backup and recovery processes. Users can leverage the AI for real-time custom reporting, targeted troubleshooting, and recommendations tailored to their specific environments. According to Dell, this contributes to improved productivity and efficiency of backup operations.

For PowerMax storage, Dell comes with Storage Direct Protection, a new component of the PowerProtect Data Manager. Dell promises this solution enables fast, efficient and secure backup and recovery with hefty speeds of up to 46 TB per hour for backup and up to 21 TB per hour for recovery from multiple storage arrays, as well as secure data integrity and easy management. Powermax is a type of storage array that has been part of Dell’s portfolio since 2016, when it acquired the original manufacturer EMC.

Comprehensive data security solution

Dell PowerProtect is a comprehensive data security solution with various products and services. This suite includes both hardware and software and is suitable for on-premises, hybrid, or multi-cloud use. The total package offers features such as backup, recovery, monitoring, replication, and disaster recovery and is typically integrated with Dell EMC’s broader ecosystem of storage and data management solutions.

The PowerProtect Data Domain DD9410 and DD9910 systems and APEX Backup Services AI are now available. Storage Direct Protection for Dell PowerMax will be available in the third quarter of 2024.
