Details of Samsung’s latest flagship phone have been spotted in the FCC’s database. These confirm that the Galaxy S21 Ultra has support for the S-Pen.

The FCC states that the smartphone can be operated with a stylus. The device uses two methods for detecting movement: hovering and clicking. To do this, the phone constantly sends a signal to the S-Pen at frequencies between 0.53 and 0.6 MHz.

This confirms the support of the S-Pen in the upcoming smartphone. This is striking, as until now Samsung had only added support for the stylus to phones in the Note-series and some tablets. Leaked images of the S21 Ultra show no space in which the S-Pen could be stored.

The addition of support for the stylus possibly indicates that Samsung intends to eventually kill off the Note-series. Apart from the presence of the stylus, there is little difference anymore between those devices and the Galaxy S phones.

Wi-Fi 6E

Furthermore, the FCC report confirms that the device supports Wi-Fi 6E. This 802.11ax variant adds a new frequency at 6GHz to the existing 2.4 and 5 GHz frequencies, allowing for higher bandwidth. Besides, Wi-Fi 6E has many other small improvements.

January

Samsung plans to launch the Galaxy S21 in January. There probably won’t be any major surprises, because most of the specifications and looks have all been leaked. The device will be equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888-soc, a 120Hz OLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate and a 5000mAh battery.
