SAP rolls out Joule Work and enters the payments market with SAP Pay

SAP is beginning to roll out Joule Work to customers, the company announced at SAP Connect. Internally, 110,000 employees are already using the AI interface. In addition, SAP is entering the payments market with SAP Pay and will collaborate with Moody’s on supplier risk.

At SAP Connect, SAP is showcasing its progress toward what it calls the Autonomous Enterprise. Joule Work, the new AI interface, is now being rolled out to customers. Employees can use it to interact with SAP solutions in their own language and perform tasks using both SAP data and third-party data.

At SAP itself, Joule Work is already in use by 110,000 employees. The company reports a 20 percent productivity increase in finance, HR, and procurement. The context comes from the SAP Knowledge Graph, which maps more than 7 million data fields.

SAP launched the Autonomous Enterprise earlier this year at Sapphire 2026. Joule Work was also announced there as a chatbot that turns questions into action. CEO Christian Klein now calls it a breakthrough: “The Autonomous Enterprise has arrived.”

Assistants carry out the work

Isn’t asking a question enough? Then Joule Assistants carry out operational work directly within business processes. In doing so, they use existing authorizations and audit trails. Customers determine for themselves how much autonomy they allow. Through the Agent2Agent protocol, Joule also collaborates with third-party agents.

According to SAP, the International Trade Assistant reduces trade classification time by up to 50 percent. Novartis is testing the Joule Sourcing Assistant, which it developed in collaboration with SAP. “Our vision is for AI agents to handle the manual  heavy lifting,” says Christoph Buerki, Head of Procurement at Novartis. PwC will use the Billing Assistant to detect discrepancies before sending invoices.

SAP Pay and Moody’s

In addition, SAP is entering the payments market. SAP Pay is powered by SAP subsidiary Tereina and is directly integrated into SAP Cloud ERP. As soon as an invoice is due, the payment is processed and reconciled within the same workflow. Manual file exchanges are no longer necessary.

SAP is also partnering with Moody’s. Data from Moody’s on supplier risks is integrated into SAP Ariba Supplier Lifecycle and Performance. This gives procurement teams continuous insight into suppliers’ financial health.

In Joule Studio, users build agents, ranging from no-code to pro-code, with a choice of more than 70 AI models. SAP manages these agents through the AI Agent Hub in SAP LeanIX.
