Pure Storage announced it is expanding its as-a-service portfolio. The new offerings include FlashStack, as well as Portworx Cloud Consumption as a service. FlashStack is a converged infrastructure, which is delivered jointly by Cisco and Pure.
The infrastructure is AI-powered and software-defined with a flexible consumption model. It is scalable, managed holistically, and can help customers by giving them access to tested, validated reference architecture for common/popular workloads.
Portworx Cloud Consumption, which Pure Storage gained when it acquired Portworx last year, heralds the arrival of a consumption-based model for Kubernetes storage.
Portworx’s role
Pure Storage also acquired Portworx to get more into multi-cloud data services and allow customers to operate and scale enterprise apps across all clouds or data centres. It is difficult to forecast how many servers would be needed to run applications on Kubernetes.
To address the problem, Portworx Cloud Consumption allows consumers to buy Portworx hours at any rate throughout the year, in a fashion similar to the public cloud reserves instances.
Pure Storage launched the as-a-service offering in 2018, in addition to expansions to its subscription offerings since then.
Pure could get bigger
In the most recent published financial results (delivered in May) Pure noted that total revenue grew by 12% year over year, while subscription services, taken separately, grew by 35%. It is a model that’s working for Pure, given that the subscription models now bring in about 39% of total Pure sales.
In other recent Pure Storage news, the company’s shares rallied after JPMorgan analyst Pinjalim Bora called the company ‘well-positioned in the market to take share” from other large storage vendors.
Bora added that Pure Storage could be able to pick up more market share on its journey to re-accelerate growth and increase its revenue mix.
