Google is trying to offer its users new immersive experiences, and a partnership with Magic Leap could be valuable in that regard.
Magic Leap and Google announced a strategic partnership to develop AR experiences. The collaboration brings together Magic Leap’s AR expertise with Google’s platforms.
Shahram Izadi, general manager of AR/XR at Google, provides some information about what users can expect. “We look forward to bringing Magic Leap’s leadership in optics and manufacturing together with our technologies to bring a broader range of immersive experiences to market.”
No clarity on hardware manufacturing
The announcement is quite limited in providing details. It does mention a few times that Magic Leap has extensive expertise in optics and manufacturing. That could mean that the collaboration will yield a hardware product.
Google already collaborates with Samsung to develop VR glasses. The collaboration was launched in 2023 but still does not yield any public results. Communication on that project also remains outstanding. Google put its own production of VR glasses on hold last year.
