Amazon.com announced on September 4 that they are going to employ 10,000 more people in Bellevue, Washington, in addition to the 15,000 workers they were already planning to hire in the city. Bellevue is home to 2,000 Amazon workers.

It is 15 minutes by car from Seattle, which is the home of Amazon’s headquarters. Soon, the two cities will have a light rail connecting them, making it easier for workers to commute between the different Amazon offices.

Amazon said that they would do onboarding for the extra 10,000 employees in the next few years. This timing is probably tied in some way to the completion timeframe of the office buildings under construction in Bellevue. They are going to be open over the next few years as well.

The biggest construction project they are working on has to be the Bellevue 600 tower, which sits next to the planned light rail station connected to Seattle. John Schoettler is the VP of global real estate and facilities at the company, and he shared some information about the real-estate plans they have.

Amazon is currently renting a 42-storey skyscraper and a complex with three towers in downtown Bellevue to accommodate their ever-expanding workforce. The ongoing construction projects are going to add a million square feet of office space.

A behemoth that won’t stop

Bellevue is one of the many cities where Amazon wants to hire people to support its growth. They recently announced a recruitment process for 3,500 extra workers in New York, Detroit, Denver, Dallas, San Diego, and Phoenix.
