OnePlus has announced that it will unveil its latest flagship on 23 March: the OnePlus 9. Sales of the device will begin that same day. The company seems to be focusing more on camera quality with this generation.

To improve the camera, OnePlus has joined hands with camera manufacturer Hasselblad. The company emphasizes this cooperation in the video that it published to accompany the announcement. In the video, the moon takes center stakes and at near end, a shot of the back of the device is shown. The back of the device shows a camera bump with four lenses: two large ones and two smaller ones.

The emphasis on the moon suggests that OnePlus and Hasselblad have worked hard to develop a good zoom lens. Such a lens could be used to take good photos of the moon. Zoom lenses can be found in many cameras these days, for example in the new Samsung Galaxy S21, which OnePlus presumably sees as the main competitor to the OnePlus 9.

Leaked details

OnePlus has not yet shared any details about the OnePlus 9. However, some possible specifications about the device have already been leaked. For example, according to YouTube user Dave2D, the smartphone features a 120Hz screen with a resolution of 3120×1440 pixels. Other rumours mention 45-watt wireless charging.

Official information about the OnePlus 9 will become available when OnePlus announces the device. That announcement will take place on March 23 at 15:00 Dutch time.

OnePlus has been making inroads into the world of smartphones for years. The company released the OnePlus One in 2014, an affordable device with high-end specifications and a barebones Android skin. Over the years, however, the devices have become increasingly expensive, though they remained cheaper than the flagship models they compete with. While the company initially only made one device at a time, it has recently started producing cheaper devices as well.

Techzine tested out both the OnePlus 8 and mid-range OnePlus Nord last year. The OnePlus 8T did not escape our judgment either.
