Samsung introduced the Galaxy Z Fold4 and Galaxy Z Flip4. The foldable smartphones are available for pre-order starting August 10.
The Galaxy Z Fold4 unfolds like a book. The 7.6-inch screen is comparable to a small tablet. The Galaxy Z Flip4 is reminiscent of a flip phone from the ’00s. Unfolding the phone reveals a 6.7-inch screen.
The devices are available for pre-order starting August 10. Shipping starts on August 11 in some countries, with general availability following on August 26. The Galaxy Z Fold4 starts at €1,799. The Galaxy Z Flip4 starts at €1,099.
Galaxy Z Fold4 and Galaxy Z Flip4
Samsung claims the Galaxy Z Fold4 and Galaxy Z Flip4 are the most robust models in the series. The aluminium frames were reinforced. A new glass type prevents scratches and fall damage. Both models run on a Qualcomm SM8475 Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset.
The Galaxy Z Flip4’s battery lasts longer than the Flip3. The camera sensor delivers 65 percent more brightness than its predecessor. In addition, the front camera allows users to shoot videos and photos without unfolding the phone. The model comes with a storage capacity of 128GB, 256GB or 512GB.
The Galaxy Z Fold4 is the first Samsung device to run on Android 12L, a tablet version of Android. The new primary camera has a 50-megapixel (MP) sensor. The Fold3 had to make do with 12MP. The model comes with a storage capacity of 256GB, 512GB or 1000GB.
High expectations
Samsung typically announces new high-end smartphones in August. Apple follows in September. According to Samsung’s most recent quarterly report, the organization wants to make foldable smartphones “mainstream”. Samsung hopes that foldable smartphones will generate more sales than the Galaxy Note in the second half of 2022. The Galaxy Note is a former flagship.
