1Password recently acquired Kolide. With the acquisition, 1 Password aims to expand its portfolio of solutions to provide companies with secure access to applications and data.

With the acquisition, for which no further details were disclosed, 1Password gains a specialist that provides security for application and data access on devices. In addition to security, the platform also manages access on a contextual basis.

More specifically, with the Kolide platform, companies can ensure that access requests are secure from corporate and other devices. According to 1Password, the platform thereby responds to the current situation in companies characterized by hybrid device use.

Kolide platform functionality

The Kolide platform blocks (business) applications and data access from detected unknown devices. A security alert for the attempted login is also issued in Slack.

Through a personalized privacy environment, users then see the context of the security problems and self-executable steps to resolve them. Here, the platform focuses primarily on Windows, Mac and Linux, iOS and Android.

No changes for now

1Password is taking over Kolide’s entire team of 30 employees. The current CEO of the endpoint security specialist, Jason Meller, will become VP of Product at 1Password.

Kolide commented that there will be no changes to the Kolide platform and Okta version in the short term.
