On the way home, you can call your partner and make an appointment with the dentist. Or you’re working. Your company just moved to a state-of-the-art office building. You want to call your colleague to reschedule, but you don’t have a signal. The building is too well insulated.
A bad mobile signal; we all suffer from it sometimes. Despite a 99% mobile coverage at KPN, there are always situations where your mobile phone cannot receive a network. In some cases, such as at work or at home, you do have a simple connection to a Wi-Fi network. That’s why you can now use Mobile via wifi at KPN.
Mobile via wifi: calling and texting via your internet connection
Mobile via wifi is an addition to 4G calling, also known as VoLTE (Voice over LTE). With 4G calling, your phone no longer switches back to 3G to be able to make calls, but stays on the 4G network. Mobile via wifi ensures that you can still make calls and text messages even if you do not have mobile (4G) coverage. The unit automatically switches to Wi-Fi when mobile coverage is insufficient/absent.
Accessible anywhere in the Netherlands
The arrival of Mobile via wifi means that you can now be reached in even more places. At all places in the Netherlands where you have a mobile connection, a 4G connection or a wifi connection, you can now call and text at the same rate.
Quality of your connection
The quality of your connection with Mobile via wifi depends on the network you are connected to. Is your connection super fast? Then you can make calls in high sound quality and without delay. If your wifi network is not as good as it should be, this may affect the sound quality. You can still call and text, but in slightly lower quality.
These are the advantages:
- Better sound quality and stability (depending on your wifi connection).
- Faster connection (1-2 seconds).
- Internet and calls over the same network at the same time: your data connection remains intact.
- Mobile via wifi is automatic. Is your device suitable? Your phone then chooses which connection is best for you.
Turn mobile on or off via Wi-Fi on your Samsung
Calling and texting via wifi is automatically switched on on the new Samsung phone, if your device is suitable. You don’t want that, do you? Simply turn it off and on again via your Phone app. Go to Settings, go to the ‘green call button’ and turn the switch on when calling via WiFi. You can also indicate a preferred connection. We recommend to use the Preferred Mobile Network here.
Turn mobile on or off via wifi on your iPhone
Making calls and texting via Wi-Fi is automatically turned off on your iPhone, if your device is compatible. You don’t want that, do you? It’s easy to turn it on or off via your device. Then go to Settings ‘Mobile network’ and turn the switch on when you make a Wi-Fi call. You need at least IOS 12.1 with the latest provider settings.
