Microsoft is releasing new security features for Outlook admins and users. The update also makes it easier to start a Teams chat from within the email program.

For example, administrators can set “Report Phishing” and “Report Junk” actions through the “User Reported Settings”. Here, they can activate whether these reporting options appear in Outlook. They can also control where phishing and junk reports are sent. In certain situations, reporting directly to Microsoft is desirable, while in other cases, a security expert in the company should look at a phishing email. “Admins will also be able to customize text and other aspects of the dialogs that appear before and after users’ report phishing or junk,” Microsoft said.

The feature, which should help in the fight against phishing, will initially become available for Android and iOS in April. Starting in May, Windows users can use it. In June, it will be Mac users’ turn.

Microsoft Teams

Effective immediately, enhanced Microsoft Teams integration is coming to Outlook. This will allow users to start a Teams chat directly from an email with the sender or all email recipients. The Teams chat opens in Outlook, allowing users to chat while continuing their work in the email program.

Finally, another feature in April promises to simplify the use of Search Folders folders. Search Folders organise email, such all unread messages in a separate folder. “Search Folders will now display a folder tag within the message list, indicating the folder to which each email belongs. This enhancement provides users with quick and easy access to contextual information, improving navigation and organization within their mailbox,” Microsoft describes. The feature should be available in April for the Windows and Web versions of the email program.
