Telefonica Tech has announced plans to strengthen its cloud capabilities. It plans to do this by acquiring Altostratus Cloud Consulting, which will add highly qualified professions to its in-house team.

The hope is that it will reinforce its position in the industry, by extending its positioning with the main hyperscalers.

Altostratus is known for servicing more than 300 customers that include major corporations and SMEs. The services are tailored for use with big data, which sometimes involve machine learning technology and proprietary solutions.

A natural next step

At Altostratus, Daniel Aldea, the CEO said that being part of Telefonica Tech has been in the making for more than five years. The acquisition, he added, was the completion of that journey, which started when the company set out to become the leader in Google Cloud services in Spain.

He said that the company considers this deal a ‘natural step’ in the two companies’ relationship. He also mentioned that the two companies have been working together with their customers to become a part of the digital transformation process sweeping across major industries and powered by cloud services.

Cloud cred acquired

Telefonica Tech recently integrated another company, ACENS, which offers services focused on the SME market and has experience in infrastructure, spanning the cloud and IaaS, cloud networking, applications (SaaS), security, and cloud communications.

Altostratus has been consulting as a Google Cloud Premier Partner in Europe since 2019, which has given it time to build up a collection of experts that Telefonica could use. It is expected that Altostratus will keep its autonomy while working under the umbrella of its parent company. Aldea will continue to lead the unit.
