Amazon has announced that AWS Chatbot is available. The service is used to send notifications to DevOps teams.

AWS Chatbot makes it possible to send security, billing and system stability notifications to DevOps teams through Slack. The service delivers alerts from several key AWS services, including Amazon Cloud Watch, AWS Health, AWS Budgets, AWS Security Hub, Amazon GuardDuty, and AWS CloudFormation.

The service uses the Amazon Simple Notification Service which also mails the same notifications directly to developers. AWS Chatbot works by forwarding SNS Topic Notifications from customers to Slack channels or developer Chime chat rooms. Administrators can add the notification to Slack from the console within AWS Chatbot. However, Amazon does say that some services require additional configuration.

“DevOps teams can receive real-time notifications that help monitor their systems from Slack,” the Slack team wrote in a blog post. “It means they can address situations before they become full-fledged problems, whether it’s a budget variance, system overload, or any security issues”.

AWS Chatbot was launched in 2019 as a beta version and is available free of charge from now on. Users only have to pay for the underlying AWS services they use.
