Microsoft launches the Surface Hub 2 Smart Camera, an $800 AI camera (€727).

The Surface Hub 2 Smart Camera is available at Surface Hub resellers starting today. This is the first AI-based camera developed by Microsoft. Light is adjusted automatically, without the editing of photos and recordings. The camera automatically focuses on multiple objects and people — even when multiple objects and people move around.

In this respect, the release is ahead of the HP Presence cameras released earlier this year. Some modern HP laptops are equipped with a camera that automatically focuses on a single object. The Surface Hub 2 Smart Camera sets itself apart by focusing on multiple people and objects — for example, during the live stream of an event, or a video conference in a crowded meeting room.

The model is undoubtedly powerful, but power has a price. 800 dollar starkly contrasts models shipped by HP and others.

The standalone camera is available starting today. From May 31 onwards, the camera will be integrated into a new 85-inch version of the Surface Hub 2s. This model will cost $22,000 (€20,000).
