JetBrains brings 2024.2 updates to all IDEs

JetBrains introduces the 2024.2 updates for its IDEs. These improve the quality and speed of the AI Assistant for various programming languages, and AI chat is now supported by GPT-4o.

JetBrains AI Assistant gets a new version. Developers should benefit from an assistant that can complete code faster and better. The updated version is available for code in the Java, Kotlin and Python programming languages. Support will expand “in the future.”

In addition, the chat function has been upgraded. By supporting GPT-4o, answers should be more accurate. In addition, answers will be given a source reference or context to give users a better view of the accuracy of the answer.

New terminal

The update further makes the terminal announced in February the standard. The new terminal retains the main functionalities of the Integrated Development Environments (IDEs). Among other things, the new environments now include a new command history section where developers can find recently executed commands. The old design is not gone; developers can still choose it via a plug-in.

Finally, several IDEs are getting upgrades. Usually, these are improvements to features that were already present. Within Aqua, Playwright gets broader support and Python and Java are added. RubyMine 2024.2 then brings Howire Stimulus support back to files configured with Kamal. Finally, Rider 2024.2 supports a new type of completing code.
